Grok Learning Path

Learn Grok in the product, in this order: one checked chat answer, one Imagine still, the plan page, then the CLI only if you have a repository.

Updated 2026-09-25

Grok learning is not a course xAI sells under that name. It is the hour you spend learning the assistant without picking up bad habits from unlimited-free threads. The path below uses the official clients and the pages on this site. You need an account, which you create from the login steps. You do not need SuperGrok on day one.

Ask one question you can check

Open grok.com and ask for a fact you can verify in a primary source. A good first prompt names the source: “Summarize the Free and SuperGrok prices printed on x.ai/pricing. Quote the monthly figures and stop.” Then open the pricing page and compare. You are calibrating the model, not collecting an answer to keep. If it invents a student discount or a trial length, you have learned the main lesson: plans and dates belong to the live page, which is why the price guide keeps telling you to read checkout.

Second prompt: paste a paragraph you wrote and ask for a tighter version with the same facts. That shows the editing use without any retrieval risk. Third: attach a file you authored, a one-page note, and ask for open questions. Stop there for chat. You now know sign-in, a sourced answer, an edit, and an upload.

Make one still, then one clip

Switch to Imagine. Generate a still with a constrained prompt, as in the image guide. Edit it once, one change only. If the balance allows, animate that still with the video guide. Watch the length and resolution the UI offers. That is your plan’s ceiling, more accurate than any screenshot from last spring. If the button asks you to upgrade, write down the plan name it suggests and compare it with the $0, $30, and $100 figures before you pay.

Turn on voice once

Voice mode is listed on the free plan. Try one spoken question using the voice guide. Headphones help. You are checking latency and whether the spoken answer matches the written one. It will not. Spoken replies drop citations. For anything you might repeat, ask for the text as well.

Add the CLI only with a repo

If you do not write code, skip Grok Build. If you do, install it in a scratch repository, ask for a small diff, and read every line before you keep it. That is the learning outcome: the agent is a fast drafter, and you are the reviewer. Do not point the first session at your only copy of a production app.

Optional later steps, each with a guide: tasks after you notice a prompt you retype daily, companions only if you want that product and you are an adult, Unhinged only after you have seen Regular mode answer the same question. Learning the personality before the sources is how people end up trusting a joke.

What to ignore while you learn

Skip coupon threads, “unlimited Grok 4” posts, and any install that is not grok.com, the official store, or the CLI script on x.ai. Those three official doors are enough for a month of practice. The misspellings on the spelling page exist so you can recognize a typo domain. If the host is not grok.com, x.ai, or this guide, do not type a password there.

Keep a note of three failures. One wrong price, one weak image, one diff you rejected in the CLI. Write why you rejected them. That note is the actual lesson. People who only save impressive outputs never learn the failure mode they will hit on a deadline. Re-read the note before you turn on a scheduled task. A scheduled model repeats the failure on a timer.

Language practice can sit beside this path. Paste a paragraph into chat using the translation notes, then ask voice mode to read your revision. You will hear whether the sentence still sounds like you. Stop when the meter complains. Paying on day one is optional. Paying because a tutorial said the free tier is fake is not. Open the pricing page and see the $0 column yourself.

When you can explain, without looking, where login happens, what $30 buys, and why the CLI is not the chat app, you know enough to pick a real workflow. Everything else on this site is a reference for the day that workflow hits a limit, a companion, or a news rumor.

Set a timer for the first session, forty minutes is enough, and stop when it rings even if a generation is tempting. The goal is a map of the product, not a finished film. Write four labels in your notes: chat, Imagine, plans, CLI. Under each, one sentence about what you tried and what the product refused. That page beats a bookmarked thread. Tomorrow, open only the label that matches your real work. If you have no repository, leave CLI blank without guilt. If you have no need for a companion, leave that menu closed. Learning Grok is mostly learning which door you do not need. If a step in this path disagrees with the in-app label, follow the app and send us the correction. Labels move. The order of operations does not: check a fact, then pay, then automate.

Questions

Is there an official Grok course?

Not under the name Grok Learning. Use grok.com, x.ai/pricing, and the Build docs. This path is a practice order, not a certificate.

Do I need SuperGrok to learn Grok?

No. The free plan covers chat, voice, and connectors, with limits. Imagine and Build meters depend on the current free allowance and your plan.

What should I practice first?

A question you can check against x.ai/pricing, then one Imagine still, then a voice reply. Install the CLI only if you have a repository to review.

Where do Grok examples live?

Inside the product and in xAI’s docs. Copy the structure of an example and replace the details. Do not treat sample output as a live price or a news source.

  • Grok Price and SuperGrok Plans

SuperGrok is $30 a month and SuperGrok Plus is $100 on x.ai/pricing. See Lite, Heavy, the free tier, and what a trial actually is.

  • Grok Image Generation and Editing

Grok Imagine generates still images and edits a photo with a text instruction. What the plans include, and how image limits work.

  • Grok Text to Speech and Voice

Grok voice mode speaks replies and is listed on the free plan. It is not a studio text-to-speech library with published voice IDs.

  • Grok Build and the Grok CLI

Install the official Grok Build CLI on macOS, Linux, or Windows, sign in, and use it on a repository. This is not the chat app.
